O'Brother / Foxing | 03.25.16 | Sidewinder
I have been looking forward to this show since it was announced back in mid- January because I love both of these bands and the energy at their live shows... the icing on the cake was getting to see the show with a couple of my close friends.
I first heard of O'Brother back in 2011, right before I saw them open for Thrice the first go around and it's been a couple years at least since the last time I got to see them live. I got to see Foxing open for Brand New back in 2014 when they blew my mind and I have loved them ever since... they are just something else.
This night was also the release date of O'Brother's new album Endless Light which is a great album. I have to admit, I wasn't a huge fan of their previous release because Death of Day and Garden Window are up there on the list of my favorite records, but Endless Light is solid. Since it was the release day of their album, I didn't expect the to play much of their older stuff but I was so excited when they played a couple off of Garden Window, and I especially fangirled when they played Ascension, which is one of my absolute favorite songs of theirs. One of my favorite things about O'Brother as a band is the range the vocalist, Tanner. It's so incredible with the notes he hits and sustains.
I don't know how to describe seeing Foxing live, other than magical. Everyone in that band is just so talented and the music they play and how they perform is just so emotional. It was pretty packed, and the singer Conor kept saying how grateful and humbled they were to be up on that stage and how it's easy to be jaded in life but that it was moments like that that make it worth it... that's actually much less eloquent version of what he said, but these guys are truly amazing.
I wish I could more accurately and eloquently recount just how lovely this show was, but in my old(er) age I'm finding I don't bounce back as quickly anymore and I had seen Underoath a couple nights before and was still feeling that show. Just know if you get the chance to see either of these bands, you have to. I already know it's going to be way too long until I get another chance to see them.
