Oh Pep! / Gregory Alan Isakov | 10.18.18 | Emo’s
This past week or so, I’ve been lucky to go to shows more days than not, and I’ve been able to catch bands and musicians I’ve wanted to catch for years… my favorite thing to do period, but also quite a way to get my favorite season started.
I first saw Gregory Alan Isakov years ago, but I remember having to leave early because I wasn’t feeling too well. I was excited to get to catch him again, especially upon listening to his latest album Evening Machines.
I showed up early to catch the opener Oh Pep! because I’d heard good things, and they did not disappoint. The simplicity of their vocals, accompanied just with a guitar and violin/ mandolin made for a very soothing set. Now, I’ve seen Gregory Alan Isakov before but oh man, there was something really special about this night. I felt every single song he played to my core, and the sound of his voice simultaneously broke my heart and filled my soul. His set was absolutely beautiful and the crowd was absolutely fixated. The accompanying strings sounded perfect… everyone on stage was beyond talented. Of course, it was over too quickly.
This was such a lovely evening on top of everything because I got to catch up with a few of my favorite people in one spot. It was a very healing night.
