Counterparts | 11.05.19 | Come and Take It Live
I’ve wanted the chance to photograph Counterparts for years. I first saw them with Being As An Ocean on the Common Vision Tour back in 2014 and it was the first hardcore show I’d ever been to - I was mesmerized. I haven’t seen Counterparts as much as I’d like over these last five years, but they’ve come here to Austin twice in 3 months and I’m happy to say I got the chance to see them both times! I ran into a couple of friends I hadn’t seen in a while at this show as well, and that was such a pleasant surprise.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: there’s this massive misconception around the hardcore scene. I’ve never felt anything less than safe or respected at these type of shows. I feel like a lot of people perceive it as this dangerous, aggressive thing when it really isn’t. It’s a place for catharsis, and everyone is looking out for each other. It’s this incredible energy that is, quite frankly, addicting to be around.
I really am a fan of Counterparts and they seriously get better with each album release; I’m looking forward to what these guy do next.
